Top 10 famous sweets and their recipes in India

India is famous for its rich and diverse food culture, and sweets are an integral part of it. There are tremendous amount of sweets in different parts of India but today we are going to see the top 10 famous  sweets all over the country.
Here are the top 10 famous Indian sweets:


1) Gulab Jamun –
   Small round balls made of milk solids, 
   flour, and sugar syrup, flavored with.           cardamom powder.

 
Ingredients:

>1 cup milk powder
>1/4 cup all-purpose flour
>1/4 tsp baking powder
>2 tbsp ghee
>1/2 cup milk
>2 cups sugar
>1 cup water
>1/4 tsp cardamom powder
>Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

In a mixing bowl, combine milk powder, all-purpose flour, and baking powder.
Add ghee and mix well.
Gradually add milk and knead to form a soft dough.
Divide the dough into small, round balls.
Heat oil in a deep pan and deep-fry the balls until golden brown.
In a separate pan, combine sugar, water, and cardamom powder and bring to a boil to make the sugar syrup.
Add the fried balls to the sugar syrup and let them soak for a few hours.

2) Rasgulla –
  Soft spongy balls made of chhena     (cottage cheese) soaked in sugar syrup.   Originated from East India.
 

Ingredients:

>1 litre full-fat milk
>2 tbsp lemon juice
>4 cups water
>1 1/2 cups sugar
>A few strands of saffron
>1 tsp cardamom powder

Instructions:

Heat milk in a pan and bring to a boil.
Add lemon juice and stir gently until the milk curdles.
Strain the curdled milk using a muslin cloth and press to remove excess water.
Knead the chhena (cottage cheese) until smooth.
Divide the chhena into small, round balls.
In a separate pan, combine water, sugar, saffron, and cardamom powder and bring to a boil to make the sugar syrup.
Add the chhena balls to the sugar syrup and let them cook for 10-15 minutes on medium heat.

3) Laddu – 
    Small, round balls made of flour, sugar,        ghee, and various fillings like coconut,        besan, and more.
 

Ingredients:

>2 cups besan (gram flour)
>1 cup ghee
>1 cup powdered sugar
>1/4 cup milk
>1/4 tsp cardamom powder
>Chopped nuts for garnish

Instructions:

In a pan, melt ghee and add besan.
Roast the besan on low heat until it turns golden brown and gives a nutty aroma.
Add powdered sugar, cardamom powder, and milk and mix well.
Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
Grease your hands with ghee and make small, round balls out of the mixture.
Garnish with chopped nuts.

3) Barfi –
    A sweet fudge made from condensed.        milk, sugar, and flavorings like.               pistachios, almonds, or cardamom.

 
Ingredients:

>2 cups khoya (dried milk solids)
>1/2 cup sugar
>1/4 cup water
>1/4 tsp cardamom powder
>Chopped nuts for garnish

Instructions:

In a pan, crumble khoya and roast on low heat until it turns light brown.
In a separate pan, make a sugar syrup by heating sugar and water until it reaches a one-thread consistency.
Add the sugar syrup and cardamom powder to the roasted khoya and mix well.
Transfer the mixture to a greased plate and spread evenly.
Garnish with chopped nuts and let it cool.
Once the mixture has set, cut it into square pieces.

5)Jalebi – 
A deep-fried, orange-coloured sweet made of maida (flour) batter, soaked in sugar syrup. It has a spiral shape.
 
Ingredients:

>1 cup all-purpose flour
>1 tbsp corn flour
>1/4 tsp baking powder
>A pinch of food color (orange or yellow)
>1/2 cup curd
>1 1/2 cups sugar
>1 cup water
>A few strands of saffron
>Oil for deep frying

Instructions:

In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, corn flour, baking powder, and food color.
Add curd and mix well to form a smooth batter.
Cover the bowl and let the batter ferment for 10-12 hours.
In a separate pan, combine sugar, water, and saffron and bring to a boil to make the sugar syrup.
Heat oil in a deep pan and pour the batter into a squeeze bottle with a narrow nozzle.

6) Peda – 
 Soft and crumbly milk-based sweet,      available in various flavours like.          cardamom, saffron, chocolate, and more.
 
Ingredients:

>2 cups khoya (dried milk solids)
>1/2 cup powdered sugar
>1/4 tsp cardamom powder
>Chopped nuts for garnish

Instructions:

In a pan, crumble khoya and roast on low heat until it turns light brown.
Add powdered sugar and cardamom powder and mix well.
Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.
Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
Grease your hands with ghee and make small, round balls out of the mixture.
Flatten the balls slightly and garnish with chopped nuts.

7) Halwa – 
A dense, sweet dessert made from wheat flour or semolina, ghee, sugar, and flavourings like nuts or fruit.
 
Ingredients:

>1 cup sooji (semolina)
>1/2 cup ghee
> 1/2 cups sugar
>3 cups water
>1/4 tsp cardamom powder
>Chopped nuts for garnish

Instructions:

In a pan, heat ghee and add sooji.
Roast the sooji on low heat until it turns golden brown and gives a nutty aroma.
In a separate pan, make a sugar syrup by heating sugar and water until it reaches a one-string consistency.
Add the sugar syrup to the roasted sooji and mix well.
Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.
Add cardamom powder and mix well.
Transfer the mixture to a greased plate and spread evenly.
Garnish with chopped nuts.

8)Mysore Pak – 
A crumbly, melt-in-your-mouth sweet made from gram flour, sugar, and ghee, originating from South India.
 
Ingredients:

>1 cup besan (gram flour)
>1 1/2 cups sugar
>1/2 cup ghee
>1/2 cup water

Instructions:

Grease a plate or tray with ghee and keep aside.
In a pan, heat ghee and add besan.
Roast the besan on low heat until it turns light brown and gives a nutty aroma.

In a separate pan, make a sugar syrup by heating sugar and water until it reaches a one-string consistency.
Add the sugar syrup to the roasted besan and mix well.Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and leaves the sides of the pan.
Transfer the mixture to the greased plate and spread evenly.
Let it cool for a few minutes and cut into diamond shapes.
Serve once it cools down completely.

9)Sandesh – 
A soft and crumbly Bengali sweet made from chhena (cottage cheese) and flavoured with cardamom or saffron.
 
Ingredients:

>2 cups paneer (cottage cheese)
> 1/2 cup powdered sugar
> 1/4 tsp cardamom powder
> Chopped nuts for garnish

Instructions:
In a pan, crumble paneer and roast on low heat for a few minutes.
Add powdered sugar and cardamom powder and mix well.
Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan.
Turn off the heat and let the mixture cool for a few minutes.
Knead the mixture for a few minutes until it becomes smooth.
Divide the mixture into small balls and flatten them slightly.
Garnish with chopped nuts.

10) Kheer – 
A creamy, milk-based pudding made with rice, vermicelli, or lentils, and flavoured with cardamom, saffron, or nuts.
 

Ingredients:

>1 litre full-fat milk
>1/4 cup rice, washed and drained
>1/2 cup sugar
>1/4 tsp cardamom powder
>Chopped nuts for garnish

Instructions:

In a pan, heat milk and bring it to a boil.
Add rice and let it cook on low heat until the rice is completely cooked and the milk thickens.
Keep stirring occasionally to prevent the milk from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
Add sugar and cardamom powder and mix well.
Let it simmer for a few more minutes until the sugar dissolves completely.
Turn off the heat and let it cool for a few minutes.
Garnish with chopped nuts.
